The Scottish Tories have told Nicola Sturgeon she has “one last chance” to resign on Tuesday or the party will press ahead with a vote of no confidence in her premiership.
The first minister is coming under increasing pressure to step down after a Holyrood inquiry concluded she misled the devolved government's probe into sexual harassment allegations against her predecessor Alex Salmond, who denied the claims.
“The Scottish Conservatives will give Nicola Sturgeon a last chance to resign for misleading the Scottish parliament,” the party said in a statement on Friday. “Should the first minister refuse, the party will proceed with a vote of no confidence on Wednesday.”
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer earlier said the first minister should resign on principle if she is found to have broken the ministerial code.
MSPs on the Scottish government harassment complaints committee voted 5 to 4 that the first minister gave an “inaccurate” account of a meeting with her predecessor during the live investigation, a source told the PA news agency.
