Boris Johnson has insisted the government will be presenting a brand new Brexit proposal to the EU, as opposed to reported plans that were roundly rejected overnight.
It has been said the government plans to create customs posts along both sides of the Irish border to replace the controversial backstop - something that was dismissed by Irish deputy premier Simon Coveney.
But Mr Johnson claimed in an interview with the BBC that these are ideas that had previously been floated, rather than the formal text the government will present after the Tory Party conference finishes on Wednesday.
He said: "They are not talking about the proposals we are going to be tabling, they are talking about stuff that went in previously... We're going to make a very good offer."
