Pro-Brexit peers have failed in a "filibustering" attempt to "thwart" Yvette Cooper's no-deal Brexit bill in the House of Lords.
The bill attempts to avoid a no-deal by legally binding Prime Minister Theresa May into seeking an extension to Brexit beyond April 12. It was being considered in the Lords on Thursday evening.
Government Chief Whip Lord Taylor announced that following internal discussions, the bill will have a second reading later on Thursday evening with remaining stages taking place on Monday in a "timely fashion" to allow Commons to consider any Lords amendments.
Meanwhile, there was a second day of cross party talks between Mrs May and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who met to discuss a solution to the Brexit impasse, with both sides saying the talks had been "productive and detailed."
