Boris Johnson has said Britain is "re-emerging after decades of hibernation" as he outlined his vision for a trade deal with the EU.
The prime minister, speaking in Greenwich, London, on Monday, said Britain has settled a question of “sovereign authority” and can now go out into the world with “newly recaptured powers”.
He said: “We have ended a debate that has run for three and a half years – some would say 47 years… We have the opportunity, we have the newly recaptured powers, we know where we want to go, and that is out into the world.”
It comes after Michel Barnier, the bloc's chief Brexit negotiator, set out battle lines for its post-Brexit trade negotiations with Britain, including measures to ensure competition remains open and fair, and an agreement on fisheries with "reciprocal access".
