The European Parliament has signed off on Britain’s departure from the EU.

MEPs in Brussels on Wednesday afternoon backed ratification of Boris Johnson's Withdrawal Agreement, paving the way for the UK to leave with a deal in place on Friday.

Opening the debate, Brexit co-ordinator Guy Verhofstadt said Britain’s departure was a “sad” moment for the EU but predicted it would eventually rejoin.

Meanwhile, Mr Johnson has said Brexit should be categorised as a beginning for Britain and not an end as he addressed the Commons in PMQs.
