Boris Johnson has suffered a fresh setback as the bill designed to stop the UK crashing out of the EU without a deal is set to become law.
The bill has completed its passage through the House of Lords. It will now go to the Queen for royal assent and is likely to become law next week.
It comes as the PM's bid for an early general election on his own terms was challenged today after opposition leaders vowed to block the Prime Minister's fresh attempt.
Labour, the Lib Dems, the SNPs and Plaid Cymru are set to vote against or abstain from the Fixed-Term Parliament Act when it returns to the Commons on Monday.
