Brexit news - live: Boris Johnson flies home from Brussels after failing to secure concessions

Boris Johnson has left Brussels with very little to show from his eleventh-hour Brexit talks with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday evening.

One Downing Street source has said it is unclear whether the “very large gaps” that remain between the two sides “can be bridged”.

However, the two leaders agreed that they would give a decision on the future of the negotiations by Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Mr Johnson said during PMQs that the terms being demanded by “our friends in the EU” - regarding differences in legislation being passed in the future and fishing rights - were not ones that “any prime minister of this country should accept”.

As a result of the disagreements, the EU’s negotiator Michel Barnier is thought to have told EU foreign ministers he now believes that a no-deal Brexit is “more likely” than a last-minute trade deal being agreed between the two nations.
