MPs will attempt to block a no-deal Brexit today after they voted to seize control the Commons.
In Boris Johnson's first defeat as prime minister, Tory rebels and opposition MPs voted 328 to 301 to take control of business in the House on Wednesday, in a bid to stop the UK crashing out of the EU on October 31.
The PM said he would call for a snap general election if he was forced to request an extension to the October deadline.
But Labour indicated that they would not back the move, which would require the support of two-thirds of MP, until chances of a no-deal Brexit were taken off the table.
Meanwhile in Scotland, a judge is due to announce his decision on whether the planned suspension of Parliament is legal.
