Brexit: Members of the public raise £500,000 for massive Final Say march

The People’s Vote campaign has smashed its target of raising half a million pounds from members of the public to pay for Saturday’s massive demonstration demanding a Final Sayreferendum on Brexit.

More than 14,000 donors gave an average of £35.32 each to raise a total of £506,196.55 for the Together for The Final Say march and rally in London.

And hundreds of thousands are expected to flood the streets of the capital to demand a vote to give the British people the final say on any Brexit deal or no-deal outcome.

The march comes as MPs meet for an emergency Saturday sitting on 19 October, the day when the law requires prime minister Boris Johnson to ask for an extension to Brexit negotiations unless he has secured parliamentary approval for a deal.

In an email to all donors who helped crowd-fund the march, Tom Baldwin, People’s Vote director of communications, said: “In the past few months, all our events have been funded by individual online donations.

“Indeed, contrary to what you read in the media, we’re not dependent on wealthy benefactors or high value fundraising networks.

“The entire cost of all the Let Us Be Heard rallies over the summer and the big march on Saturday will be paid for by online crowd-funding.

“It means that the People’s Vote is powered by people like you.

“See you at Park Lane on Saturday at noon. Let’s march on parliament. One more time. Together for the Final Say.”

People’s Vote executive director, James McGrory, said: The People’s Vote campaign wouldn’t be where it is today without the incredibly generous donations we receive from our supporters all across the UK. People give whatever they can to the campaign because they believe as strongly as we do that the public must have the final say on Brexit.

“Smashing through our £500,000 crowd-funding target is an amazing achievement, and will help us organise one of the biggest marches in British history this Saturday, 19 October, when hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life will march on parliament to demand a People’s Vote.

“With Brexit reaching a critical stage, and with the terms on offer so different to what was promised, it’s time for a People’s Vote to solve this crisis once and for all. It’s time to march together for the Final Say.”
