
Theresa May has made a statement on the state of Brexit negotiations, and said the issue of an Irish backstop was an "insurance policy" to ensure we "do whatever we must" to break the impasse with the EU.
The Prime Minister told MPs that a deal with Brussels is "95 per cent done" as she spoke this afternoon.
The news comes after she spent the weekend trying to manage her fractious party, amid attacks from numerous fronts threatening a vote of no confidence and renewed rebellion over her Chequers proposals.
And as she addresses the nation in a bid to cool party tensions, the crosshairs have turned onto anonymous MPs who said she should "bring her own noose" to a panel of furious backbench MPs.
