Brexit legal advice: Where to find the full legal texts on Theresa May's deal

The Government has today published the Attorney General's full legal advice on Brexit after it was found in contempt of Parliament.

MPs on Tuesday passed a historic motion to hold the Government in contempt after it withheld cabinet legal advice on the Brexit deal.

It was the first time in modern history that any Government has been found in contempt, which shadow Brexit secretary Sir Keir Starmer branded a "badge of shame".

Downing Street initially said it would only release a "full, reasoned position statement" laying out its political and legal position on the Withdrawal Agreement.

But the move infuriated Labour Party and Tory Brexiteer MPs who demanded the full text be published. MPs had last month voted that the government should publish "any legal advice in full".

They said a 43-page summary and a statement by Mr Cox on Monday had failed to meet the terms of the vote and urged Speaker John Bercow to launch contempt of Parliament proceedings over the issue.

MPs from across the parties signed a motion demanding the release of the full legal advice. The Government was forced to publish the full legal advice on Wednesday morning after MPs voted by 311 to 293 on Tuesday that its failure to do so amounted to contempt.
