Brexit: EU chief brands David Cameron 'one of the greatest destroyers in history'

David Cameron is "one of the greatest destroyers in modern history" according to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

In a speech to the German regional parliament in the Saarland Mr Juncker complained that the EU had not been able to make the case for union membership to the British public because of Mr Cameron.

European institutions were banned from making their case "by Mr Cameron, one of the greatest destroyers of modern history," Mr Juncker said according to reports from local broadcaster ntv .

He added when it comes to Brexit "no one knows where it is heading".

Brexit: Tory Steve Baker announces he could vote no confidence in the government

MPs must act quickly to bring clarity to the UK's position he said, speaking just hours before Parliament seizes control of the Common's agenda - for the second time - in a series of indicative votes.

Mr Jucker returned to one of his favourite analogies - comparing British politics to an ancient Egyptian mythological creature.

He said: "A sphinx is an open book compared to the British Parliament and we have to get that sphinx talking now."

The mythological figure is famous for speaking only in riddles.

Brexit is making the UK a 'laughing stock' says Siemens boss

MPs will hold a string of votes tonight that could lurch the UK into a soft Brexit - and rip the Tory party in two.

The 'indicative votes' will allow MPs to choose between a string of options for Britain's future outside the EU, just 11 days before we're meant to leave.

Theresa May must decide whether to accept the result or keep pushing her own thrice-defeated Brexit deal before an emergency summit on April 10.
