Brexit: Donald Tusk's stinging parting shot promising no more delays - maybe

EU chief Donald Tusk has delivered a brutal parting shot to the UK promising no more delays to Brexit ... probably.

The European Council President tonight repeated his warning to Britain not to "waste this time" after he presided over an extension to January 31.

And he he said: "It may be the last one. Please make the best use of this time."

Mr Tusk bade Britain the cool farewell as he prepares to leave his five-year post on November 30 in favour of new President Charles Michel, the former leader of Belgium.

It comes seven months after Mr Tusk agreed a previous delay to October 31 and memorably told the UK: "Please do not waste this time".

Immediately after Mr Tusk made his original plea in April, the Tory party collapsed into a brutal leadership contest before Boris Johnson tried to shut down Parliament and then tried to force an election.

He spoke again tonight as MPs prepared to back a snap election in mid-December.

He tweeted: "To my British friends, The EU27 has formally adopted the extension. It may be the last one.

"Please make the best use of this time. I also want to say goodbye to you as my mission here is coming to an end.

"I will keep my fingers crossed for you."
