Donald Trump will give a press conference at 11am after arriving in Scotland just hours after Britain voted in favour of withdrawing from the European Union in a historic referendum.
The presumptive Republican nominee is due to attend the reopening of his Trump Turnberry golf course after the results of the EU referendum were announced. Trump Turnberry Ailsa's golf course, which has played host to The Open Championship four times, has undergone a £200 million restoration. Mr Trump purchased the South Ayrshire resort in 2014.
He is expected to be met by a throng of anti-racism protesters as he opens the resort. It is understood that he has no meetings scheduled with British leaders during his visit. Downing Street said David Cameron “has no plans” to meet him.
In a tweet, Mr Trump said he was leaving for a one night trip and would return to the US on Saturday.
His press conference could potentially be a jubilant one after his camp reiterated their support for Brexit two days before the referendum, with an aide claiming “America is here because of its own little Brexit”.
In May, Mr Trump suggested the UK would be “better off” outside of the EU and claimed migration had been “horrible” for Europe.
“I know Great Britain very well,” he told Fox News. “I know, you know, the country very well. I have a lot of investments there. I would say that they’re better off without it. But I want them to make their own decision.”
The outspoken business magnate is just one of a few international political figures who have backed a Brexit.
