Brexit: 5 ways Boris Johnson savaged 'suicide' deal before his stunning U-turn

Boris Johnson tonight announced he would back Theresa May's withdrawal arrangement deal with the EU.

It was a remarkable political turnaround - particularly if you've spent any time listening to the descriptions he has been spaffing up the wall.

With one eye on the coming Tory leadership contest it is not hard to see why Boris might have had a sudden change of heart.

So here are just some of the ludicrous ways Mr Johnson  described the deal.

Mr Johnson has been quite critical - which will be awkward now when nothing has changed except the chance to advance his own career (Pixel8000)

He said it was a 'suicide vest'

Tastefully, Boris Johnson attacked Mrs May's Brexit plan, saying she had "wrapped a suicide vest" around the British constitution and "handed the detonator" to Brussels.

In the Mail on Sunday, the former foreign secretary said the Chequers deal was "feeble" and "pathetic".

He compared the deal to the Titanic

Speaking in Belfast Mr Johnson likened Theresa May ’s Brexit deal to the Titanic, warning that the prospect of the UK accepting it was like an “iceberg ahead”.

He said the deal was going to let the Europe steal all Scotland's fish

Yeah, this one is weird even by Boris standards.

Speaking to the Aberdeen based Press and Journal he said" "There are many exquisite humiliations in the so-called ‘deal’ with the EU that parliament is being asked to endorse on Tuesday – but the essential problem can be boiled down to this.

"Theresa May’s deal hands the EU the indefinite power to bully and blackmail this country to get whatever it wants in the future negotiations.

“And if history teaches us anything, it is that our European friends will not desist until they have worked out a way to plunder Scottish waters for their fish.”

He said defending the deal was 'polishing a turd'

Just before he chucked in his job as Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson criticised the Prime Minister's Brexit plans using some colourful language, according to reports.

He reportedly repeatedly described the backing the plan, which will see the UK tied to EU rules on goods, as like "polishing a turd".

He compared being in the EU to slavery

Boris Johnson has urged Theresa May to “channel Moses” and tell the EU to “let my people go”.

Seems like an innocent enough - if a bit off the wall - reference to the book of Exodus in the bible.

But then you remember Mosses was demanding the release of slaves and it all becomes a bit...unseemly.

Mr Johnson continued: “We have blinked. We have baulked. We have bottled it completely.

Brexit mastermind Dominic Cummings found in contempt of parliament

"We have now undergone the humiliation of allowing the EU to decide the date on which we may make our own departure.

"It is the EU that is now insisting that Parliament must vote – for a third time! – on its Carthaginian terms, if we are to be permitted to leave on May 22.”
