Brewery in Sligo launches Super Split ice cream flavoured beer

If you feel like reliving the famous Super Split ice cream flavours, then this is for you.

The White Hag Brewery in Ballymote, Sligo, have launched a new Super Split ice cream flavoured beer.

The brewery is on a mission to create interesting and innovative beers with a nod towards the ancient classic beer styles and launched the unique beer last month.

In an announcement, The White Hag brewery said, “Remember getting the ultimate treat on a sweltering day, of a tangy and sweet frozen Super Split, trying to stick your tongue to it and eat it before it melted?

“We’ve put it in a can and added beer. Much handier.”

They added: “This ice cream ale features the nostalgic citrus orange burst and sweet vanilla creaminess you’d expect.

It’s the summer beer that promises to bring you back to your childhood summer holidays and the days you spent eating a Super Split on a sun-lit pier.”

The Super Split ice cream was first launched in the 90s and instantly became a summer staple.

Sadly individual Super Splits, or as they are now called Split, can no longer be bought. However, multipacks are now available in supermarkets.

The company was established in 2013 and are known for their award-winning stout range and their IPA's, which makes up most of their core range.

The brewery also collaborates with their peers in the industry and have made beers with brewers from across the world.

People seem to be enjoying the new flavour combination of the Super Split beer as they took to Twitter to share the experience.

One user wrote, “@TheWiteHag just needs a flake & the sun #tastybeer”.

Another said, “Tell me this isn’t an example of modern art?”

More people remarked how much the beer really does taste like a Super Split.

“Been saving me last one! This really does taste like a Super Split Orange Ice Cream. Fabulous (as ever) from @TheWhiteHag".

The White Hag is the first brewery in Sligo in over 100 years, and one Twitter user jokingly said is "The best thing to come out of Sligo since the road to Bonniconlon.”
