Brewers use late homers to beat Cardinals, 5-4

ST. LOUIS _ Milwaukee's Keon Broxton homered into the Brewers' bullpen with one out in the sixth to tie it and pinch-hitter Jesus Aguilar blasted a solo shot over the bullpen with two outs in the seventh as the visitors came from behind to knock off the Cardinals 5-4 Thursday night at Busch Stadium.

Milwaukee rallied from 3-0 and 4-3 deficits to win the game, which was shifted from Thursday afternoon to Thursday evening in an effort to avoid Thursday's rainy weather after Wednesday night's game was postponed.

The Brewers took two of three games from the Cardinals in the series, outhitting the Redbirds 15-10 on Thursday. Broxton led the way with four hits and pair of RBIs while Travis Shaw (two RBIs) and Hernan Perez added three hits apiece.

For the Cardinals, Kolten Wong (RBI) and Aledmys Diaz had three hits apiece while Yadier Molina had two hits and an RBI. Dexter Fowler had a two-run triple to highlight the Cardinals' three-run second inning but left the game with a strained shoulder after a diving attempt in center in the Brewers' three-run third.

At the end of the second inning, the Cardinals lost right fielder Stephen Piscotty with a strained right hamstring.

The Cardinals went up 3-0 in the second, getting one run on an infield hit from Wong and the two-run triple from Fowler.

Milwaukee tied it in the third as Shaw drove in two with a double and Broxton followed with a run-scoring double.

The Cardinals regained the lead at 4-3 in the bottom of the third as Matt Carpenter walked and raced to third on Jedd Gyorko's single to right. Molina followed with a run-scoring single for a 4-3 lead.

But the Brewers rallied, thanks to the long ball.

The Brewers left 13 on base while the Cardinals left 11.

The Cardinals begin a six-game road trip on Friday, playing the first of three against the Braves at new SunTrust Park in Atlanta. The team will then head to Miami for three against the Marlins before returning to Busch Stadium to take on the Chicago Cubs on May 12.
