Brewers clobber Dbacks, 15-6

PHOENIX _ The West Coast continues to treat Ryan Braun well.

He hit a pair of three-run home runs and tied a Milwaukee Brewers franchise record by driving in seven runs on Saturday night, leading an offensive explosion in a 15-6 pasting of the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

Braun, who now has four homers in his last four games, drove in seven runs for the second time in his career and the 10th time in Brewers history.

Keon Broxton also went 5 for 5 and reached base six times and Jonathan Villar and Orlando Arcia combined for six hits and seven runs as the Brewers amassed season highs of 15 runs and 19 hits.

The Brewers jumped on left-hander Patrick Corbin right out of the chute, with Villar lining a single to left on the first pitch of the game and Arcia _ hitting second for the first time _ walking.

Both got into scoring position after a Corbin walk, then successive sacrifice flies by Braun and Hernan Perez gave Milwaukee a quick 2-0 lead.

Milwaukee kept the pressure on Corbin, putting multiple baserunners on in each of the next four innings, but each time came up empty. Their best shot to tack on came in the second, but Broxton was caught in a rundown between third and home on a ground ball by Villar and tagged out.

The Brewers were 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position and had left eight runners on heading into the sixth before Villar's leadoff double and Arcia's bunt single chased Corbin.

Manager Chip Hale brought in right-hander Evan Marshall to face Braun, recreating a memorable matchup from two years ago at Chase Field. In that one, Marshall drilled Braun with a pitch and was ejected only to have Jonathan Lucroy drill a game-turning grand slam one pitch later in an eventual 7-5 victory.

Braun saw three pitches in this at-bat, drilling a slider way out to center to up the Brewers' cushion to 5-0. A Broxton RBI single then made it 6-0.

Brewers starter Matt Garza, meanwhile, sailed through his first five innings.

He allowed just one baserunner over the first four _ on a second-inning single by Jake Lamb _ and faced no trouble until the sixth. Phil Gosselin blooped a double to center, and after a pair of walks the Diamondbacks loaded the bases with two outs for Yasmany Tomas, who'd hit two homers in a 3-2, 11-inning Arizona victory the night before.

Garza eventually coaxed a groundout from Tomas and then got even more cushion courtesy of Braun.

After Villar walked and Arcia singled, Braun sent a Dominic Leone offering over the wall in right for his second three-run homer of the night. His seven-RBI night was the second of the season for the Brewers; Aaron Hill also accomplished the feat on May 7 in Cincinnati.

It was also the 25th multi-homer game of Braun's career, and his third of the season. He'd sat out five consecutive games with tightness in his right side before homering in his return on Tuesday in San Diego.

Braun also homered Wednesday in San Diego, then went 0 for 3 with two walks on Friday. He wound up reaching base in his final four plate appearances Saturday, and upped his season totals to .324/18/56.

Villar's second error of the night opened the door for a two-run homer by Welington Castillo, and Garza was pulled shortly after that. He was replaced by Jhan Marinez, who surrendered a two-run homer to Jean Segura on his first offering that made it 9-4.

Garza (3-4) pitched a season-high 6 1/3 innings and allowed three hits allowed a season low. He also walked three and struck out three in a 102-pitch outing.

The Brewers scored six times in the ninth, and sent 10 batters to the plate in all.
