Newcastle will be without stand-out performer Hannah Brewer for their last game of the season against the Roar on Sunday with the steely centre-back unable to make the trip to Brisbane due to work commitments.
But Jets leading striker Tara Andrews is expected back in the starting side after missing a 1-0 loss to Canberra last round with an ankle complaint. Left-back Gema Simon has been nursing a knee issue but has been cleared to play and Tiana Jaber comes into the squad as a possible back-line replacement for Brewer.
The Jets have registered only seven points this season and will remain in eighth place regardless of the result at Lions FC Stadium while Brisbane (22) are in finals contention.
Newcastle drew 1-1 with the Roar in round four and coach Ash Wilson said the match presented an opportunity to "finish with a last game that is a true reflection of the team that we are and we want to be known for".
"They've got some quality individuals and they've grown a lot as a team over the past couple of weeks," Wilson said.
"It's the last game for Clare Polkinghorne and Emily Gielnik before they move overseas and the club is going to make sure it's a good last final showing for them.
"So I expect them to be very tough and to be putting our girls under a lot of pressure. That's what good teams will do. The challenge for us is to back ourselves and to not shy away from the competition and to go at them."
The match will mark a history-making 97th consecutive W-League appearance for Jets co-captain Cassidy Davis. The effort will surpass the previous record stretch of 96 games straight held by Marianna Tabain.
