BrewDog lodges planning application to turn city centre office into 'beer hotel'

BrewDog has lodged a planning application to turn an empty office building in Manchester city centre into a hotel.

The establishment would be the city's first 'beer hotel'.

The application features plans to turn a three-storey building on Fountain Street - just off Market Street - into 18 en-suite rooms, a ground floor restaurant and a rooftop bar with a fire pit and barbecue area, the Manchester Evening News reported.

Situated across the road from Primark, the site was previously home to Enzo pizza restaurant, but has stood empty for several years.

It will fall under the company's 'Kennels' hotel brand, which features bedrooms located above its craft beer bars.

The first Kennels hotel opened in Aberdeen, joining other BrewDog hotels in the US.

Its plan to bring the concept to Manchester was first revealed last year.

According to the planning documents, Manchester Kennels will have 18 en-suite bedrooms spread over two floors.

The ground floor will be home to a new restaurant and bar with seating for around 150 customers, as well as the check-in desk, while the rooftop will become a terrace and bar area.

If the Aberdeen site is anything to go by, you can expect can fridges in the showers, record players and board games, and even pet beds for your four-legged friends to stay overnight with you.

It was revealed last year that the brand's existing bar on Peter Street would be closing before making the move the short distance across town, though the bar has continued trading since then.
