BrewDog launches Japanese-style spirit in 'revenge' against Far East whisky distillers

BrewDog has launched a Japanese-style spirit as a playful dig at the Far East distillers who make their own version of Scotland’s national drink.

Inugami Shochu, which is served in a highball with ice and four parts sparkling water, is a 23% spirit subtly flavoured with galangal root, ginger and Scottish rhubarb.

It adds Ellon-based BrewDog’s range of spirits which includes LoneWolf gin, Rogue Wave vodka, Five Hundred Cuts rum and Zealot’s Heart gin.

The makers said they were inspired by the growing market for single malt Japanese whisky. A limited edition 55-year-old Suntory Yamazaki recently went on sale for around £21,000.

BrewDog said: "Inugami Shochu is crafted with the sweet spirit of revenge, a next level drink that’s best served like they do in the Izakaya bars in Japan: In a highball with sparkling water, loaded with ice. Named after the wild dog spirits found in Japanese folklore, Inugami are known for their wrath and powers of possession. Wild Scottish birds are found on the bottle keeping the wild dog in check.”
