BrewDog handing out free pints at lunchtime this week - how to bag yours

Most of the country now spends their entire working day at, well, work - with even lunch breaks taken at the desk.

But while daytime drinking might not be the healthiest of habits, the tradition of getting away from the office and sharing some time with colleagues or friends is one that is long overdue a comeback.

Susanna Newsonen, author of Happiness is Here, said: “Your brain needs regular breathers throughout your day. Going totally offline and away from your desk at lunch is vital in helping you to recharge your batteries and better deal with stress."

But despite us all being entitled by law to at least a 20 minute break in each 6-hour shift, new research found 77% of UK office workers spend their entire lunch hour at their desk.

So, to help, pub chain and beermaker BrewDog decided to give the nation a drink on the house.

BrewDog's new "Out of Office" campaign is giving people two pints each between midday and 2pm all this week (25 to 29 November)

To sign up, all you need to do is visit  BrewDogOOO.com and enter your email address.

That gets you a voucher for two lunchtime pints at any of its 52 UK bars - there's even a bar-finder to help you track down which is nearest.

BrewDog co-founder James Watt said:   “Leaving your desk at lunch has become frowned upon in many workplaces, most people make do with shovelling down a sad sandwich at their desk while they crack on with work.

"That’s not a break, and it’s certainly not good for productivity or our mental and physical health."

And for anyone worried about the impact of alcohol in the daytime, or who doesn't drink, the company made sure they were catered for too.

"Our aim to be inclusive, so we are offering the choice of alcohol-free Punk AF or Nanny State as well as the classic Punk IPA or Lost Lager," Watt said.

“This initiative isn’t about encouraging people to be unprofessional, it’s about reclaiming lunchtime for the people.”
