Go Ahead Eagles technical director Marc van Hintum has admitted a transfer move to Celtic for Jakob Breum was never close.
The Eredivisie club stood firm on a £6m transfer valuation, but the Parkhead club were not willing to meet the fee demand.
According to Van Hintum, the gap between the £6m fee and what Celtic were willing to pay was simply "too big".
Breum, a Danish under-21 international, was left "disappointed" by the failed transfer switch, but Van Hintum expects he will shine for Go Ahead Eagles this season.
"No, that transfer wasn't close," Van Hintum told Oost of Breum's potential move to Celtic.
"The gap between what we were asking for and what Celtic was willing to pay was simply too big.

"Jakob was open to it, but there was no agreement with Celtic. And of course, we ultimately had a say in that.
"The amount we asked for was very realistic and in line with the market, especially considering how things went with Oliver Antman.
"Of course, Jakob was disappointed, but he handled it fantastically. I expect him to shine again this season."
Go Ahead Eagles sporting director Jan Willem van Dop previously condemned Celtic's transfer business approach during the summer.
He suggested Celtic operate in the market in a similar fashion to Rangers after the Ibrox club signed Oliver Antman in swift fashion.
He said: "There was some interest from Celtic for Jakob Breum, but we felt the gap was too wide.
"Things moved very quickly with Oliver Antman and Glasgow Rangers.
"Celtic could have taken a leaf out of Rangers' book."
