Brett Veach says Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill suspended from team activities

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach held an impromptu press conference on Thursday evening after the public release of new audio relevant to the Tyreek Hill child abuse investigation. Veach read a prepared statement on behalf of the organization announcing that the Chiefs would suspend Hill from all football activities.

“We didn’t have a first-round pick tonight and I did not anticipate having a press conference,” Veach said. “However, In light of the events that transpired tonight I did think it was appropriate to address the media on behalf of the organization. Earlier this evening we were made aware of the audio between Tyreek and Crystal (Espinal, his fiancee). We were made aware of this information in real time, just like the general public. We were deeply disturbed by what we heard, and deeply concerned. Now obviously, we have great concern for Crystal, we are greatly concerned for Tyreek, but our main focus, main concern, is with the young child.

“As soon as the draft concluded, after the last pick, I had the chance to call Drew Rosenhaus (Hill’s agent), and we decided at this time and for the foreseeable future, Tyreek Hill will not take part in any team activities. We are going to gather more information, we’re going to evaluate this information, and we will make the right decision regarding Tyreek Hill.”

Veach did not take any questions after his prepared statement, and it is unclear when the team will next address the subject. Veach and the Chiefs are next scheduled to speak to the press at 2:30 p.m. on Friday to introduce new trade acquisition Frank Clark.
