Brett Favre to be honored by Packers on Thanksgiving night vs. Bears

April 27--Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers parted ways under less-than-friendly circumstances before the 2008 season.

But the two sides decided long ago to leave their differences behind them and now they are ready to make it official.

The Packers announced Monday that they will unveil Favre's name and retired jersey No. 4 on Lambeau Field's north fa硤e Nov. 26, a Thanksgiving night matchup against the Chicago Bears.

Favre's jersey will officially be retired July 18 during the Packers Hall of Fame induction banquet. He will be the sixth Packers player to receive the honor, joining Don Hutson (No. 14), Tony Canadeo (No. 3), Bart Starr (No. 15), Ray Nitschke (No. 66) and Reggie White (No. 92).

"It will be an incredible honor to be in Lambeau Field on Thanksgiving night with Packers fans and have my name and number placed among the greatest players in Packers history," Favre said in a statement released by the Packers.

"With the great history and tradition of the Packers-Bears rivalry, and remembering the great matchups we had during my career, it seems only fitting to have Chicago as the opponent."

The Packers indicated last summer they wanted to honor Favre by retiring his number but decided to wait until they felt the local fans were ready to re-embrace one of their greatest players ever

"He wouldn't want to come back and get booed," Packers President Mark Murphy said last summer. "You can't control 80,750 people."
