Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre paid $600,000 to the auditor’s office in Mississippi this week. The funds had been obtained as part of $1.1 million Favre received for events where he was expected to make speeches but did not appear.
Favre is not totally in the clear. The state could go after him for $228,000 in accumulated interest. It is uncertain whether he will be pursued for that money.
Auditor Shad White said Favre paid the $600,000 to the auditor’s office White sent the former Green Bay Packers quarterback a letter Oct. 12 demanding $828,000, which was the $600,000 plus $228,000 in interest.
Of the $228,000, White said: “If he does not pay that within 30 days of our demand, the AG will be responsible for enforcing the payment of the interest in court.”
Favre was improperly paid $1.1 million in welfare funds between December 2017 and June 2018. Favre is not facing criminal charges. He had previously paid the first $500,000.
