Brett Favre on whether the Eagles should have picked Nick Foles over Carson Wentz

Carson Wentz has struggled at times this season and it’s brought up the widely discussed debate on regression and whether the Eagles picked the right quarterback. Wentz plays like a gunslinger and has been compared to former Packers great, Brett Favre.

The comparison is ironic because it appears that Favre doesn’t feel the same and on Tuesday during a visit to ESPN’s First Take, the Hall of Fame quarterback gave some insight into Wentz’s struggles.

As if Wentz is a franchise quarterback, Favre seemed to have questions based on the Eagles’ star’s inconsistent play. While delving further into the matter, Favre stated that the Eagles probably should have kept Nick Foles at quarterback instead of Wentz.

The comments are funny because Favre focused on Wentz’s lack of ball security and inconsistency, yet the Hall of Famer tossed 20+ interceptions in 7 different seasons during his playing career per Pro Football Reference.

Wentz patterns his game after Favre and through the first 9 weeks of the regular season, Just over halfway through the 2020 season, and Carson Wentz currently leads the entire NFL in interceptions (12). Wentz caught flak on Monday for reaffirming his aggressive, gunslinger nature, stating that he’ll always ride that thin line between giving up on a play and making big things happen.

Favre can have his opinion after he won three MVP awards, a Super Bowl, was named to three All-Pro teams. The Hall of Famer also led the league in interceptions on three different occasions, and unlike Wentz, Favre never threw fewer than 13 picks in a season while starring with the Green Bay Packers.
