Brett Favre joked to Aaron Rodgers: ‘Am I going to see you playing for the Saints?’

Aaron Rodgers’ rift with the Green Bay Packers has sent his predecessor down radio row to reflect on his own experience in splitting with the team, but Brett Favre is taking it all in stride. During an appearance on the Wilde & Tausch ESPN radio show, Favre shared his only correspondence with Rodgers during this whole affair.

“Hey, am I going to see you playing for the Saints this year?” Favre says he jokingly asked Rodgers in a text message, per the Green Bay Press-Gazette’s Ryan Wood. Favre quoted Rodgers’ response, adding: “Hey buddy, I don’t believe that’s going to happen.” Favre grew up a Saints fan in south Mississippi, where he still lives in retirement, so it makes sense for him to link Rodgers to New Orleans.

The Saints couldn’t fit Rodgers’ contract as it’s currently written on their books even if they wanted to, and you’d have to think Sean Payton would be eager to work with Rodgers if given the chance. Right now the Saints are going into training camp with Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill competing to start at quarterback while Trevor Siemian defends his crucial role in holding the starter’s Microsoft Surface tablet from rookie draft pick Ian Book.

Until the Saints know they have their heir to Drew Brees, they’ll continue turning over stones and kicking the tires on quarterbacks from every corner of the NFL. They’ve explored trades targeting Sam Darnold and Mac Jones, and other attempted moves probably haven’t been reported. Just don’t bet on Rodgers wearing a black and gold fleur-de-lis if Green Bay does end up parting ways with him.
