Brett Favre expects quick recovery from injured Saints QB Drew Brees

Brett Favre knows a thing or two about getting hurt in the NFL. His long career with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings (and a brief stint with the New York Jets) saw him fight through a number of painful injuries, getting familiar with the medical staff along the way. Favre grew up a New Orleans Saints fan and remains supportive of the team, having grown up about two hours outside New Orleans in rural Kiln, Miss.

So when he saw Drew Brees exit last week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams with an injury to his throwing hand, Favre offered his unique insight in an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio. He discussed the challenges ahead of Brees, how the team may perform in his absence, and what it will mean to get their starting quarterback under center again.

Favre knows from his own experience how starting quarterbacks like himself and Brees can aggressively work through recovery and rehab after surgery. He doesn’t see this speed bump slowing Brees down for long: “No doubt that Drew’s work ethic and his desire is going to get him back, I would assume, quicker.” You can find Favre’s full comments in the audio clip embedded below, or by following this link.

Brees’ procedure (which repaired a torn ligament in the thumb of his right hand) went smoothly, per reports, and he’s on track to return within about six weeks. That suggests his first game back could come against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9, after the Saints’ bye week. It’s a safe bet that Favre will be watching.
