The Ravens had a walk-through practice Monday afternoon and second-year wide receiver Breshad Perriman was part of it.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced Monday that Perriman, the team's first-round pick in the 2015 draft, has been activated from the physically unable to perform list.
Perriman missed his entire rookie season with a knee injury and then he sustained a partially torn ACL in his left knee during the final week of organized team activities.
"He'll continue to practice as the trainers allow him to," Harbaugh said. "He'll be in the later [walk-through] practice, which is the slower version of practice. He'll be involved in that mental stuff. It will be good to see where he's at with that."
In parts of two seasons with the team, Perriman hasn't gotten through a full training camp practice yet. But Monday's news is an important step for the former Central Florida standout.
"I'm sure we'll all be holding our breath a little bit," Harbaugh said. "It's just natural. He's in great spirits. I can tell you that. He's worked extremely hard. I think he's really grown through all this and he's learned how to really work to rehab. He's been forced to do that. I'm looking forward to seeing how he looks when he comes back.
"He looked like he was running well. He still has to get into shape. He's not in great shape. That's the next challenge as far as running routes, play-to-play. But he's a young guy. He's always been able to run. He's always been in shape, so we feel pretty confident. He's been working at that part of it, too. It's not like he hasn't been. He's been working on that as well. We'll just see how he does when he comes out. He's still not going to do the full practice until they tell me when. I don't have a day on that. Maybe it's tomorrow, maybe it's not. We'll just see what the trainers say."
Harbaugh was noncommittal when asked whether Perriman will play in Saturday's preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
"That's going to be up to the medical," Harbaugh said. "If he can play, believe me, I want him out there playing, and he wants to be out there playing. If he can play well, he will play."
In other injury news, Harbaugh announced that safety and 2013 first-round pick Matt Elam likely will need arthroscopic surgery after falling on his knee in Saturday's victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
"He had a chip come loose in there," Harbaugh said. "It won't be a season-ending injury by any stretch. They say it's some number of weeks into the early part of the season. We'll just see how that goes. It's unfortunate for him but [general manager Ozzie Newsome] will deal with it roster-wise, however he decides to deal with it."
Harbaugh did say the Ravens may bring in another safety for depth, but he's comfortable with the depth the team has at the position.
