Brentford winger Sergi Canos has become the latest player to sign up to the Common Goal initiative, pledging to donate one per cent of his salary to charitable causes.

Since being launched in 2017, more than 200 players and managers have joined Common Goal, including the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Serge Gnabry and Vivianne Miedema.

Canos has now become the latest player to come on board, with his aim being to help young people in England, Spain and Colombia.

The Brentford midfielder is splitting his 1% pledge equally among three Common Goal football for good organisations: Asociación Alacrán 1997, Fundación Colombianitos, and Football Beyond Borders.

“I’ve decided to join Common Goal because I’ve been thinking about doing some things for the community for a very long time,” said Canos.

“But I hadn’t yet got around to doing anything as I didn’t have the strength to make the step to find someone.

“And then Common Goal came and we’re going to do great things. I think we, as a community, as a people, as a world, we need to keep changing to make the world better.

“And on my own I’m not going to make the world better, but if I join a community that’s doing great, I’m able to contribute my grain of sand.

“For other players thinking of joining Common Goal, I think every person helps however they want to, and as long as we are united in doing something that is good, then I think it’s great.

“When I told my football friends they thought it was a great idea to join Common Goal because everyone knows about the movement and that something amazing is going on. So I hope I can get them to join with me.”
