Brentford vs Newcastle team news: Eddie Howe's big call as he tweaks team and benches talisman

Eddie Howe tweaked his team once again for the clash with Brentford as he stuck with his vow to rotate after the 5-1 win against West Ham.

The Magpies won handsomely across London on Wednesday night but Howe has a close eye on player fitness levels ahead of the run-in. Allan Saint-Maximin was rested and not in the squad at all for the encounter against the Bees.

That meant Joelinton was pushed into the attack and Joe Willock started in midfield after taking a rest in the 5-1 win over West Ham. Callum Wilson was also benched despite two goals against the Hammers with Alexander Isak named in the starting line-up.

Otherwise, it was an unchanged Newcastle with Nick Pope in goal, Kieran Trippier captaining the team at right-back with Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and Dan Burn making up the defence. Sean Longstaff, Bruno and Willock ran the midfield.

Jacob Murphy, Isak and Joelinton led the line of attack in the capital. Paul Dummett came in on the bench to replace Saint-Maximin.

UNITED: Pope, Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn, Longstaff, Guimaraes, Joelinton, Murphy, Willock, Isak.

Subs: Dubravka, Dummett, Lascelles, Gordon, Wilson, Ritchie, Targett, Manquillo, Anderson.

BRENTFORD: Raya, Hickey, Jansson, Pinnock, Mee, Henry, Dasilva, Norgaard, Jensen, Schade, Toney.

Subs: Strakosha, Wissa, Zanka, Ghoddos, Mbeumo, Damsgaard, Baptiste, Janelt, Roerslev
