Liverpool fell to a fourth Premier League defeat in a row as Brentford stunned the champions with a well-deserved, although controversial, win in west London.
The hosts struck inside five minutes when Dango Ouattara finished from a Michael Kayode long-trow, with Kevin Schade doubling their lead on the counter-attack moments after Liverpool had appeals for a penalty waved away when Cody Gakpo went down in the box.
To Brentford’s fury, Milos Kerkez pulled one back for Liverpool deep in first-half stoppage time, but the Bees were then awarded a contentious penalty when Virgil van Dijk was ruled to have fouled Ouattara on the 18-yard line following a VAR review.
Mohamed Salah ended his goal-drought with a superb finish to pull one back late on, but it could not stop Liverpool from losing a fourth league game in a row for the first time since February 2021, when they were also champions.

Arne Slot admits Trent Alexander-Arnold factor could play part in Mohamed Salah’s poor form
19:45 , Jamie BraidwoodArne Slot has played down Mohamed Salah’s slow start to season but admitted Liverpool’s adjustment to life without Trent Alexander-Arnold could be a factor.
“He played with Trent his whole Liverpool career, so it could (be that),” Slot said when asked about Salah’s drop in form. “He's been in promising positions often enough to score goals, but maybe with Trent even more.
“But in general, if you have quite a few changes in the summer you have to find new connections. Mo is not an exception to this because he’s also a human being, like all the others.”

Virgil van Dijk reveals Liverpool players’ meeting after defeat to Man United
19:30 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool captain Virgil van Dijk insists Monday’s players’ meeting was not for “crisis” talks but he felt he had to deliver a message to the squad.
“On Monday everyone was sad because we lost to Man United at home,” said Van Dijk. “It was tough under the circumstances so on Monday we came together but it wasn’t a crisis meeting.
“Nobody wants to lose four games in a row but it was the situation we faced. Obviously we also had a proper debrief with the manager but we also had a separate one as players.
“I wanted to say some things. It’s not something I do after every game. After my meeting everyone was happy!”
Liverpool boss Arne Slot backs Mohamed Salah to find scoring form again
19:00 , Jamie BraidwoodLiverpool head coach Arne Slot insists the last thing he is worried about is Mohamed Salah ending his goal drought.
“I don’t know if it’s sharpness or not. It’s so difficult, I could come up with a few reasons which I’m not sure are the reasons,” said the Reds boss.
“In general in football players miss chances and Mo is a human being as well. We are not used to him missing chances, let alone a few in a row, but these things can happen.
“It’s easier to finish a chance if you are 3-1 up than if you are 1-0 down but maybe that is not true for him.
“But the main thing is Mo has always scored goals for our club and the last thing I worry about is Mo starting to score goals again.
“That is what he has done his whole life and that is what I expect him to do in the upcoming weeks and months for our club as well.”
