Full time: Brentford 2-2 Chelsea
Chelsea were far more dangerous in the second half but Brentford always remained a threat on the counter. Carvalho’s stoppage time goal feels like a winner for Brentford. Chelsea will be the more disappointed team after Caicedo’s late rocket. What an end to the game. 2-2 seems like a fair result all in all.

90+5 min: Another chance for Chelsea. Garnacho runs down the left and cuts it back for Palmer. He can only sky the ball over the bar though. It seems that will be that.

Brentford equalise! A long throw from Schade causes chaos in the Chelsea box. They fail to deal with the first bounce before Carvalho sneaks round the back to equalise for Brentford.

89 min: Sanchez goes down with an “injury” to the dismay of the home fans.
86 min: Dango Ouattara almost levels it down the other end. His cross is deflected and it takes a strong hand from Sanchez to keep it out.
GOAL! Brentford 1-2 Chelsea (Caicedo, 85)
What a hit! Alejandro Garnacho dances menacingly on the left before driving to the box and pulling it back for Palmer. Brentford manage to clear the ball away but it’s only as far as Caicedo. The midfielder takes a touch, steadies himself and rifles a shot into the the top corner.

78 min: Chelsea are throwing everything at this. As they commit more players forward, they leave themselves exposed on the counter. It looks like there’s another goal in this.
74 min: Pinnock loses the ball in his own half to Pedro Neto. The winger is away, no one able to catch him, and he slides the ball across the box to Cole Palmer. You’d bet you life on the England international scoring but he hits it into Kelleher’s hands.
71 min: Excellent skill from Cole Palmer on the left. He evades a few challenges as he drives to the box and passes the ball across the six yard box. It’s crying out for someone to make the necessary contact but it trickles out for a goal kick.
66 min: Palmer clips the ball over the top to Neto. The winger skips inside of Ethan Pinnock, nutmegging him on the way, but the Brentford defender recovers well to make a fantastic block.
62 min: Great save from Sanchez! The game has come alive since Palmer stepped on the pitch. Mathias Jensen heads the ball down to Schade, who forces a brilliant save from Sanchez. It was almost a repeat of Chelsea’s goal.
GOAL! Brentford 1-1 Chelsea (Palmer, 60)
Instant impact! Fernández clips a ball onto the head of João Pedro. The Chelsea striker heads in down to Palmer and in true Cole Palmer style, he cushions the ball into the corner of the goal.

58 min: Chelsea are playing with intent now. Fernández frees Neto on the right. The Portugal international drills a dangerous ball across the box but there’s no one making a run towards the near post.
55 min: Gittens, the topic of conversation among many Guardian readers, makes way for Cole Palmer.
53 min: João Pedro getting on the ball is changing the game. He passes the ball through to Gittens on the left. The England winger holds the ball up and slips in Marc Cucurella but his shot is easily saved by Kelleher.

50 min: Tyrique George, on for Buonanotte, stings the hands of Kelleher. João Pedro drops deep to pass the ball to Neto. The winger plays a through ball of his own to George and his shot goes out for a corner.

47 min: A crucial challenge from Chalobah. Yehor Yarmoliuk plays a dangerous through ball to Igor Thiago but the Chelsea defender cleans up. He was the last man so he needed to execute his slide tackle perfectly.

After Henderson’s brilliant assist for the opening, Thomas Tuchel’s predilection for Hendo seems justified.
Half time: Brentford 1-0 Chelsea
It was a fairly pedestrian first half before Schade brought the game to life.
Brentford have looked dangerous on the break and their through balls over the top have caused the Chelsea defenders problems.
Chelsea are passing the ball around far too slowly and they’ve struggled to break down an organised Brentford back line. Perhaps going behind, will force them to take more risks.

43 min: Fernández whips the resulting corner onto the post! It somehow stays in play before Brentford clear it. It’s the closest Chelsea have come all game.
42 min: Chelsea finally have a decent chance. João Pedro, who has largely been frustrated in this first half, gets the ball on the edge of the box and plays a couple of one-twos with his teammate. Buonanotte should really pull the trigger but it falls to Fernández. The midfielder drills it wide of the post via a deflection.

38 min: Brentford deserve the lead. They’ve played with much more intensity than Chelsea. The home team have been excellent in the transition, turning defence into attack with speed.
GOAL! Brentford 1-0 Chelsea (Schade, 34)
It’s a brilliant counter attack from Brentford. Chalobah wins a tackle outside of Brentford’s box but his challenge falls to the feet of a Brentford player. Jordan Henderson receives the ball deep in his half and clips an incisive through ball to Schade. The winger cuts in and slots the ball past Robert Sanchez in the far corner.

27 min: We’re almost half an hour in and there hasn’t been a single effort on target. But don’t worry, there’s been a great deal of probing and an abundance of square passes.

24 min: Brentford are getting a foothold in this game. They’re passing the ball around well after surviving Chelsea’s early possession football.

I haven’t seen much from Gittens as yet. A former “intermittently dangerous Chelsea winger” has been playing well for Arsenal and England recently.
19 min: Moises Caicedo has been excellent as usual. He makes another challenge in the middle of the park.
18 min: Out of nothing, Chelsea have a chance. Trevor Chalobah plays a delicious ball over the top into the path of Pedro Neto. It drops kindly for the winger but he can’t quite get the ball under control and the chance is wasted.
15 min: Chelsea are playing some intricate stuff on the right hand side. They’ve struggled to create any clear-cut chances though.
11 min: The referee grants Chelsea an undeserved free kick after Jamie Gittens went down. Enzo Fernández swings a free kick onto the head of the Tosin Adarabioyo. His header is well saved by Caoimhin Kelleher but the offside flag was up anyway.

7 min: Brentford have made their game plan clear. Anticipating Chelsea will have the lion share of possession, Keith Andrew’s side seem set on clipping balls over the top on the counter attack. It’s causing Chelsea problems so far.
5 min: Brentford have the first real chance of the game. It’s route one stuff: a long ball over the top finds Kevin Schade who take the ball down before cutting in and letting fly. The shot takes a deflection and is out for a corner.
2 min: Chelsea are setting the tempo early in this game. It’s good to see Wesley Fofana back after a series of injuries. It’s strange to see him at right back though, especially with Reece James and Malo Gusto on the bench.

The big team news for Brentford is the return of Vitaly Janelt to the squad. He’s available for the first time since April after undergoing surgery on his heel. He’s joined by new signing Reiss Nelson on the bench. According to Keith Andrews, the Arsenal loanee has “slotted seamlessly into the group.”
For Chelsea, Cole Palmer returns to the squad after recovering from his groin injury. Palmer is on the bench with Chelsea’s new signing Facundo Buonanotte starting in his place. Interestingly, there's no sign of Estêvão Willian.
The Prodigy are pumping at the GTech for this rather unsociable 8pm kick-off. They’ve just declared last orders will be at 10.30pm. So then, the football. That looks an odd Chelsea team with Wesley Fofana right-back. Is Enzo Maresca the new Tinkerman, for older fans - it’s a long time since Claudio Ranieri? Brentford was a difficult place to go to under Thomas Frank and Keith Andrews has to do the same. It’s a familiar lineup for his team, with Liverpool graduates in Caoimhin Kelleher and Jordan Henderson key men in the new Brentford.

Preamble
Hello and welcome to minute-by-minute coverage of Brentford v Chelsea in the Premier League.
A new manager, a transfer saga and a difficult start to the season. There’s been drama in west London, and that’s just at Brentford. The former set piece coach turned head coach Keith Andrews will be keen to kick-start his side’s season after an opening day loss against Nottingham Forest and last gasp defeat versus Sunderland. Brentford are slowly adapting to life without Christian Nørgaard, Brian Mbuemo and Youanne Wissa, by way of a protracted transfer saga.
For once, Chelsea look like the more stable side. 74 FA charges and Nicolas Jackson situation aside, Enzo Maresca’s side have started the season well, remaining unbeaten and conceding only one goal in the process. Tonight’s game is Chelsea’s fourth straight London derby this season. A win at the Gtech would see them climb to the top of the table.
