Brentford have agreed a deal to sign the Feyenoord midfielder Antoni Milambo on a five-year contract, with an option for a further year.
Standard Sport understands the Dutch midfielder is joining Brentford for a fee of £16million, with a further £4.25m in possible add-ons.
Milambo has undergone a medical in England but is back in the Netherlands ahead of a holiday, after which he will join up with his new team-mates later this month.
Brentford have been in regular discussions with Feyenoord and the player’s representatives since April and have long been the frontrunners to sign the Netherlands youth international, who recently competed in their run to the Euro Under-21 Championships semi-finals.
The 20-year-old playmaker is a product of Feyenoord’s academy and had emerged as a key first-team player under head coach Robin van Persie.
The arrival of Milambo will add another young talent to Brentford’s squad, but director of football Phil Giles has stated publicly that the club must also address the “void” of experience left behind by the impending sale of club captain Christian Norgaard to Arsenal and goalkeeper Mark Flekken’s move to Bayer Leverkusen.
The club may lose another experienced player this summer with their talismanic forward Bryan Mbeumo keen to join Manchester United, who have made multiple bids for the Cameroonian and continue to pursue a move for him.
On Monday, Brentford unveiled Keith Andrews as their new head coach after he stepped up from the role of set-piece coach to replace their outgoing manager Thomas Frank, who took the head coach job at Tottenham.
Milambo is set to become the first signing of Andrews's reign.
