Brentford submit £750k bid for defender who failed to impress at Bristol Rovers on loan from Arsenal

Brentford have submitted a bid of £750k for Marc Bola.

The Sun's Alan Nixon revealed the news on Wednesday morning, but also reported that Blackpool are keen for more than that for the full-back.

It is news that may come as a surprise to Bristol Rovers fans after Bola spent the 2017/18 season on loan at the Gas from Arsenal.

The left-back made 18 appearances that season for Rovers, but he failed to make much of an impression.

Reflecting on Bola's time at Rovers, then-manager Darrell Clarke revealed he had brought the player in on loan with a view to signing them in 2018.

"Bola has done quite well; he’s done okay," he said.

"He’s a young lad. There was a reason I brought him and Dom Telford [striker from Stoke City] in on loan this season – they’re out of contract in the summer. I'm not sure what’s happening at those clubs.

"I looked at the bigger picture with those two if they potentially get released. It was about working on them as a project."

On his return to Arsenal from Rovers, he was released, and joined Blackpool last summer.

The 21-year-old has clearly impressed on the north west coast after he made 35 league appearances last season and scored two goals.

Luton Town are also said to be keen on the player after they lost James Justin to Leicester City earlier in the window.

However, Brentford have now joined the race for the former Rovers player, and he could well depart Bloomfield Road for a large fee.
