Brentford striker Neal Maupay has been named EFL Player of the Year at the London Football Awards.

The Frenchman has been in prolific form, despite the Bees’ struggles, scoring 22 times in all competitions, including 19 in the league, to sit fifth in the Championship scoring charts.

The 22-year-old arrived from Saint-Etienne at the start of last season, but has come into his own since the start of the new campaign in August.

Maupay beat off competition from two Championship rivals in QPR’s Luke Freeman and Millwall’s Lee Gregory, as well as Charlton duo Karlan Grant and Lyle Taylor.

The awards, which celebrate the best of London football in the 2018/19 season, are voted for by a panel of 22 experts from across the football industry, including ex-players such as Bobby Zamora, Bob Wilson and Tony Cottee.

Prior to the evening, Tottenham and England legend Glenn Hoddle had been confirmed as the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to London Football award.
