Brentford star Ollie Watkins admits Arsenal 'dream' amid West Ham transfer interest

Brentford star Ollie Watkins has admitted it would be a "dream" to secure a move to Arsenal.

The 24-year-old has been in great form for the Championship side this season, grabbing 22 goals to leave him as the second top scorer in the second division.

He has also pitched in with three assists, with a number of clubs said to be keeping track of the striker ahead of a potential summer move.

West Ham have been the team linked most recently, with scouts said to be watching his performances of late.

Mikel Arteta on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's future

The striker was at the London Football Awards and picked up the EFL Player of the Year award for his exploits at Griffin Park.

And after picking up the trophy, he was asked about a potential move to Arsenal.

"Yeah, the dream," he told Sports Gazzette. "That's the dream to play for Arsenal one day.

"But, you know: it's a long shot."

Watkins is the second Brentford player in a row to pick up the EFL Player of the Season award after Neal Maupay won the gong in 2019 before making the move to Brighton.

The Gunners have also been linked to Watkins' teammate Said Benrahma in recent weeks, with Mikel Arteta set to undergo his first summer transfer window as Arsenal boss .

Arteta was only able to bring in Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares on short-term deals in the January market having arrived in North London midway through December.
