Brentford set for active January transfer window as injury problems mount

Brentford plan to sign a left-back in January as cover for the injured Rico Henry.

It is unlikely Henry will play again this season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in September. He suffered the same injury to his right knee in 2017 and did not play for 14 months.

The Bees may be forced into the market next month, with Bryan Mbeumo and Kevin Schade also out injured and Ivan Toney still serving his betting ban.

"I think there could be a few interesting opportunities for us to do some business", revealed Brentford's head of recruitment, Lee Dykes.

"We have had a few injuries. Rico is unfortunately going to be out for a long time, so we may look at that position as a position of interest.

"There may be new opportunities. There normally is, because you will always have injuries, always have interest in new players."

Dykes added: "We might have to rush through a signing because we think that if we wait another six months then this could go beyond our reach.

"As a whole, I think January is a seller's market, not a buyer's market, and a market that we don't tend to want to work in too much. We don't believe that the valuations that are placed on players are as realistic as in the summer.

"But we always need to be active in the market, and sometimes you need to do something because you have an injury, or a particular situation has cropped up."
