What we know about Brentford's postponed clash with Bolton Wanderers and when it could be played

Brentford are expected to find out the arrangements for their rearranged clash with Bolton Wanderers on Thursday.

The Bees were set to face the Trotters on Saturday afternoon only for the game to be postponed after the home players boycotted the fixture.

This came as a result of the players and non-playing staff having not been paid their wages for March or April.

Reports earlier this week suggested that the rearranged game could take place this week, however a statement from the EFL says that a decision will be made tomorrow.

They said: "The EFL has this morning confirmed that Bolton Wanderers' suspended Sky Bet Championship fixture with Brentford will not be played this week.

EFL reveal deadline for when Brentford's clash with Bolton Wanderers must be played

"The EFL Board will now determine on Thursday 2 May 2019 as to what arrangements are to be put in place in regards to the fixture and Bolton Wanderers will be instructed accordingly."

Bolton Wanderers and the EFL are in talks to arrange the fixture with the Bees, with a date next week likely to be the only available option.

Rules state that any match has to be played within four days of the end of the normal season, meaning that the fixture must be fulfilled by Thursday May 9.

Bolton players issue stunning statement ahead of Brentford clash after threatening boycott

The Bolton Wanderers first team squad are yet to be paid, meaning that their involvement in the fixture is still very much in doubt.

This has led to reports of Bolton's youth players taking to the field to ensure that the game goes ahead.

Reports in the Daily Mail this morning claimed that Brentford may look to do the same by fielding their B team for any rearranged fixture against the Trotters.

However, football.london understands that this is highly impractical given that the Brentford B team have a fixture against Manchester City at Griffin Park on Tuesday - a game which cannot be rearranged.

As a result, the likelihood of any of Brentford's young stars being available for this game are minimal, meaning that Brentford would have to field their senior players for the game with Bolton, despite it falling potentially four days after the season ends.

Brentford have declined to comment on the rearranged fixture with Bolton.
