Brentford poised to complete Mikkel Damsgaard transfer with Christian Eriksen replacement set for medical

Eriksen replacement: Mikkel Damsgaard is set to join Brentford

Brentford are hoping to complete the signing of Denmark playmaker Mikkel Damsgaard this week.

The Bees have agreed a fee of around €15million (£12.6m) with Sampdoria and Damsgaard is due in London this week to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms.

The arrival of the 22-year-old will be a major boost for Brentford, who have looked to add creativity to their side this summer after failing to re-sign Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen spent the second half of last season with the club, but elected to join Manchester United last month instead of returning to west London.

Brentford have already signed Keane Lewis-Potter for £20m in that area of the pitch and Damsgaard is due to arrive to add further competition.

There was no sign of Brentford missing Eriksen yesterday as they kicked off their Premier League campaign with a spirited 2-2 draw at Leicester.

The Bees were 2-0 down as Timothy Castagne and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put the Foxes in a commanding position. Ivan Toney pulled one back just after the hour mark and then Josh Dasilva scored a cracking equaliser with four minutes to go.

It was a special moment for Dasilva as he netted his first Premier League goal. The former Arsenal academy graduate was Brentford’s No10 in the Championship and only injury has prevented him from showing his talent at a higher level so far.

“It’s been a while so I haven’t really been able to show the fans what I can do. It was good to get out there and just score,” said Dasilva.

“Thomas [Frank] has a great belief in me, which is obviously great. He gave me the No10 shirt even when I was injured so that shows what sort of belief he has in me.

“Hopefully I can repay it in the minutes he gives me. I have a great relationship with him and he helped me a lot, messaging me and coming to talk to me even when I was injured.

“He has a lot of faith in me so hopefully I can repay it with more goals like that!”
