Brentford player ratings vs Brighton: Baptiste and Raya fare well despite defeat

David Raya: Made a big save at 0-0 to deny Danny Welbeck where the visitors were on top. Aside from the goal, the Spaniard acquitted himself well between the sticks and averted any potential danger. 7

Kristoffer Ajer: Went on a lung bursting run in the first half but the Dane look assured in defence and looked solid defensively. 6

Pontus Jansson: Before Brighton's late intervention, the Swede made a goal-saving block to deny Jakub Moder who was clean through. It was harsh on him in particular but a good performance all round. 6

Ethan Pinnock: Dealt well with Neal Maupay in the first half, forcing a throw in by the corner flag. Looked comfortable in possession. 6

Sergi Canos: The Spaniard had his battle with his fellow compatriot Marc Cucurella, with both getting the better of each other. Canos was unable to have an impact going forward but was solid defensively before Roerslev replaced him. 5

Shandon Baptiste: The midfielder certainly did himself no disservice and performances like today will see him knocking on Thomas Frank's door every week. He looked sharp on the ball and match ready. Got 75 minutes under his belt before being replaced by Frank Onyeka. 7

Christian Norgaard: The Dane delivered a firm performance in the middle of the park. As ever, he looked assured and in the game. 6

Vitaly Janelt: Did his job in midfield and put in some important challenges. Put in a good performance before being replaced by Jensen. 6

Rico Henry: Did very well down the left hand side and contained his opposite number Joel Veltman well. Was able to put in some crosses and had a cross-shot which Sanchez dealt with. 6

Ivan Toney: Lead the line very well and went close to a spectacular long range effort in the first half. But on a day where the Seagulls were there for the taking, he ultimately was unable to find the net. 6

Bryan Mbeumo: Unlucky not to get on the scoresheet despite working as hard as ever. In truth, he could have had a hat trick in the first half alone but was unable to find that killer touch. 6

Subs

Mads Roerslev: The attacking wing-back came close to bursting into the penalty area until Yves Bissouma's crucial stop, but that was as good as it got for the young Dane. 5

Frank Onyeka: After missing the Villa draw with Covid, the Nigerian midfielder was great in his cameo. He gave another dimension to Brentford's midfield and didn't look unfazed by his recent in the slightest. If fit, he starts against Wolves. 6

Mathias Jensen: Had a positive effect on play when he came on. Gave Brentford's midfield fresh legs but ultimately came to no avail. 6
