Brentford player ratings vs Arsenal: Canos class, Mbeumo runs Gunners ragged

David Raya

Commanded his area well. Relatively little to do before the break but produced good stops to beat away Emile Smith-Rowe's second-half effort and deny Nicolas Pepe late on. 8

Kristoffer Ajer

Impressive debut from the summer signing from Celtic. Solid at the back and comfortable in possession. Got forward well when he got the chance. Went off after taking a knock. 7

Ethan Pinnock

Completed a fairytale journey from non-league to the Premier League in six seasons and didn't look out of place. A man mountain at the back. 8

Pontus Jansson

Captain's performance from the Swede. Won everything in the air and kept Arsenal's attackers at bay all night. 8

Rico Henry

Was a threat going forward down Brentford's left. Kept Pepe relatively quiet at the other end. 7

Sergi Canos

History maker. Scored Brentford's first goal in the Premier League after cutting inside of Calum Chambers and firing past Bernd Leno. Also defended well against Kieran Tierney. 8

Christian Norgaard

Kept the ball ticking over in the middle of the park. The Danish Euro 2020 star was in the right place to nod home Brentford's second - his first league goal for the club. 8

Frank Onyeka

Strong debut in his first match in English football. Box to box and didn't give Arsenal's midfielders a chance to settle. Looped an early header over the bar. 8

Vitaly Janelt

Tireless performance in the engine room. The German was tidy on the ball and tough in the tackle. More to come. 7

Bryan Mbeumo

Ran the Arsenal defence ragged with his pace. Crashed a shot against the post with his weaker foot. Should've done better with his second chance after weaving his way through. 8

Ivan Toney

Worked his socks off and defended from the front. Last season's top scorer in the Championship didn't have much of a sniff in front of goal but linked up well with Mbeumo. 7

Substitutions

Mads Bech Sorensen (for Ajer, 70)

Missed the play-off final through injury, the Dane's long throw led to Brentford's second goal. 7

Mads Bidstrup (for Onyeka, 80)

Highly rated by the club, his inclusion suggests he will have a big part to play this season. 6

Marcus Forss (for Mbeumo 86)

Added some fresh legs late on. The Finnish frontman didn't have long enough to make his mark.
