Brentford are looking to appoint a new set-piece coach following Keith Andrews' promotion to head coach.
The Bees turned heads recently when they opted to promote from within to appoint Andrews, who only last summer was made Brentford's set-piece coach, as the successor to long-standing head coach Thomas Frank.
It means Brentford, who were among the first clubs to appoint a dedicated set-piece coach when they hired Gianni Vio in 2015, are once again in the market for a set-piece specialist, having just last year appointed Andrews to replace Chelsea-bound Bernardo Cueva.
A job advert on Brentford's website says that any successful candidate will be "responsible for the design, implementation and review of our set piece strategy, including corner kicks, free kicks and throw-ins from all areas of the pitch, both offensively and defensively."
The advert then goes on to state that the new set-piece coach will "take ownership for maintaining and improving the Brentford FC Set Piece Play Book" and "be responsible for embedding the set piece principles based on the Play Book into the first team squad, via on the grass coaching, team and group analysis sessions, and one-to-one analysis and coaching with individual players."
No team conceded fewer goals from set pieces (2) than Brentford last season, whilst they ranked fifth for goals scored (13), with the Bees far and away the most prolific team from attacking throw-ins, scoring six times.
Frank last season praised Andrews for adding layers to Brentford's set-piece preparation but said the Irishman had come into a club with a longstanding culture around set-pieces.
“He (Keith Andrews) has been important, and I think he's doing a top job, don't misunderstand that,” Frank said after Brentford's 2-1 win away to Bournemouth, in which both Brentford goals came from set-pieces.
“But also coming to a club with a top culture around everything, and players are buying into a lot of things. But when credit is due, well worked, especially the first one.”
Continuity has been the theme of Andrews' first week in charge at Brentford, and maintaining the club's culture around set-pieces will be important if the Bees head coach is to build on Frank's legacy.
