Brentford fear worst as Kevin Schade undergoes injury scan

Brentford’s Kevin Schade is today set to undergo a second scan on the hip injury he suffered ahead of Saturday’s defeat to Everton, with the club fearing the forward is set for a significant spell on the sidelines.

Schade was named in the starting line-up for the visit of the Toffees, but went down in agony during the warm-up after hurting his left hip in a shooting drill.

The German was replaced in the XI by Keane Lewis-Potter and the Bees went on to suffer a damaging 3-1 home defeat to an Everton side who had taken just one point from their first five matches.

Schade spent the second half of last season on loan in west London before joining permanently from Freiburg this summer in a club-record transfer worth around £20million.

The 21-year-old had featured in all six of Brentford’s matches this term prior to his injury and scored his first Premier League goal in the 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace last month. He was also called up to the Germany squad during the recent international break.

It is not yet known whether Schade will need surgery but the likelihood of him being ruled out for a significant period will come as another blow to Thomas Frank, for whom the injury problems are mounting.

Brentford are already without star forward Ivan Toney for the first half of the season because of his gambling ban and last week saw full-back Rico Henry ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.

There is concern that defender Ben Mee, who began the season on the sidelines, could be out for up to four weeks with the knock that ruled him out of the Everton game, while playmaker Mikkel Damsgaard is also set for a new scan as Brentford try to get to the bottom of his own hip issue. Fellow midfielders Josh Dasilva and Shandon Baptiste are also longer-term absentees.
