Brentford complete first January transfer window signing as deal for goalkeeper confirmed

Brentford have confirmed the loan signing of Jonas Lössl until the end of the 2021-22 season.

The Dane brings huge Premier League experience, having played 57 Premier League games for Huddersfield Town, as well as being an ever-present in their first ever season back in 2017-18.

Following the Terriers' relegation from the top flight in 2019, Lössl joined Everton on a free transfer but never played a competitive game for the Toffees, re-joining Huddersfield after six months before heading back to Denmark to join FC Midtjylland on loan, before signing permanently in February 2021.

The 32-year-old will compete with Alvaro Fernandez for the number one shirt, whilst David Raya recovers from a knee injury sustained in October's defeat to Leicester City.

Speaking to Brentford's official website, Thomas Frank said: “Jonas is a very good goalkeeper who will bring with him lots of experience. He has played in England and in the Premier League and we also know him from his work with FCM. He fits the criteria of what we want in a goalkeeper with his feet and in his penalty area.

“The most important thing is that he will add to the experience within our goalkeeper group in our first Premier League season. We have David Raya injured and Álvaro Fernández has missed some training recently. This gives us an extra experienced goalkeeper in training and also someone who has played Premier League games and will be used to that matchday environment if he starts a game for us.”

Lössl will be available for selection as soon as he receives international clearance, and could start Brentford's third round FA Cup tie at Port Vale next Saturday should he receive it in time.
