Brentford captain Romaine Sawyers set to join Championship rivals West Brom

Brentford have agreed a £3million deal to sell their captain Romaine Sawyers to West Brom.

The midfielder was due to have a medical at West Brom on Friday ahead of finalising a move to the Hawthorns.

Sawyers joined Brentford from Walsall in 2016 and has made over 100 appearances for the Bees. He had just one year left on his deal.

Brentford have signed Celta Vigo’s Mathias Jensen for £3.5m this summer and the 23-year-old Dane could replace Sawyers in midfield.

Jensen is highly rated and has impressed for Denmark’s Under-21s.

Brentford have also sold defender Ezri Konsa to Aston Villa for £12m this summer and star duo Neal Maupay and Said Benrahma could leave before next month’s transfer deadline with Villa interested in both.
