Brentford boss Thomas Frank outlines his Leeds United masterplan

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has a clear vision of how he wants his side's visit to Elland Road on Wednesday to go and it involves a certain former Leeds United player.

“The beautiful fairytale is we are winning 1-0 from a set piece and Pontus scores,” he said.

After the Swedish defender's surprise transfer to Brentford over the summer, naturally much of the focus has been on him during the build up to the match.

Although it's been a mixed start to the season for the London club, Jansson has settled in quickly and been given the captain's armband for the first three league games of the season.

The first three games have consisted of an opening day defeat to Birmingham City followed by a victory over Middlesbrough then, most recently, a draw with Hull City.

Frank remains philosophical. He said: “I know we are only going to get better and better and better this season.

“It’s up to me to do it as quick as possible.

“I think the second half performance at Middlesbrough fills me with confidence, the first half against Birmingham fills me with confidence, and the last 25 minutes against Hull fills me with confidence ahead of the Leeds tie.”

It will be Frank's first visit to Elland Road as head coach. He was promoted from assistant head coach into the hot seat in October 2018 following the departure of Dean Smith, just weeks after Brentford's 1-1 draw at Leeds.

He was in place however for Brentford's victory over Leeds at Griffin Park during The Whites' disastrous Easter period.

"We played two games last year that were very even, we respect them, they play fantastic football," Frank said.

“I admire the manager Marcelo Bielsa massively, but we are confident and believe we can go up there and win.”

“We know its massively difficult to go up there, but we are looking forward to it!”

Leeds United take on Brentford at Elland Road at 7.45pm on Wednesday.
