Brentford 2-1 Watford: Bryan Mbeumo caps off dramatic comeback

Bryan Mbeumo cooly dispatched a late penalty as Brentford turned what looked to be a dispiriting result against Watford around late on.

After Emmanuel Dennis had headed the visitors in front ten minutes before half-time, Thomas Frank’s side often looked short of ideas in the absence of Ivan Toney.

While they did boss most of the possession, it was not until Claudio Ranieri appeared to adopt a more attacking formation around the hour mark by bringing Joao Pedro on, thereby largely conceding the midfield battle.

From there, Watford - who have one of the leakiest defences in the Premier League - invited pressure onto them. Toney might have been a big miss but, backed by a home crowd, this Brentford side can be relentless.

The pressure finally got too much for Watford as Pontus Jansson scored on the second-phase of a corner with just under ten minutes to go before William Troost-Ekong gave away a comical penalty in the dying embers of the game.

Mbeumo duly scored in the coolest of fashions to send Watford deeper into the relegation mire and Brentford up to ninth.
