Brent Seabrook buys Lakeview mansion for $2.9 million

Feb. 01--Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook and his wife, Dayna, paid $2.9 million in mid-December for a newly built, six-bedroom mansion of more than 6,300 square feet on an extra-wide lot in Lakeview's Southport Corridor area.

The Canadian-born Seabrook, 30, has spent his entire, 11-year career with the Blackhawks. Last fall, he signed an eight-year, $55 million contract extension.

Seabrook is upgrading his Chicago housing situation with the three-story, 12-room mansion. Features in the mansion include four full baths, three half baths, coffered ceilings, custom millwork, 5-inch-wide plank oak floors and a three-car garage. The house sits on a 33-foot-wide lot.

Built by Ronan Developers, the house first was listed in June and had a $2.95 million asking price when Seabrook signed a contract in November to buy it. The deal closed Dec. 15. The agent who represented Seabrook in the deal, Daniel Sullivan of Conlon: A Real Estate Company, could not be reached for comment.

It's not known what Seabrook's plans are for his longtime house in Roscoe Village. In 2006, he paid $595,000 for a lot in Roscoe Village on which he constructed a two-story, all-brick house. While the current value of that house is unknown, Cook County's assessor last year gave it a value of close to $1.2 million.

Seabrook's new street has had athletic star power in the past. For more than eight years, former Chicago Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster owned a five-bedroom, 5,300-square-foot house immediately across the street, which he and his then-wife, Rebecca, purchased new in 2005 for $1.715 million. He sold the house in 2014 for $1.765 million.
